UK Visa from bangladesh
Apply for the UK visa under the new, updated rules.
United Kingdom – Standard Visitor Visa
The United Kingdom remains one of the most sought-after destinations for Bangladeshi travellers, whether for tourism, family visits, business, or higher education. Because of deep historical and community ties between the two countries, the UK Visitor and Student visa routes see especially high demand from Dhaka and Sylhet. However, Bangladesh currently records one of the lowest visitor-visa approval rates among major nationalities applying to the UK, making careful, well-documented applications essential. Understanding the exact process, required paperwork, and realistic timelines before applying can make the difference between a smooth approval and a costly refusal.
Visa Process from Bangladesh
Every UK visa application from Bangladesh starts online through the official GOV.UK portal, where applicants complete the relevant application form, upload supporting evidence, and pay the visa fee. There is no walk-in or postal option — once the online form is submitted, applicants must book a biometrics appointment at a VFS Global centre. UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) makes the actual decision; VFS only collects biometric data and documents on the Home Office’s behalf.
Document Requirements
- Standard requirements include a valid passport with blank pages,
- a recent passport-sized photo, proof of funds (typically six months of bank statements),
- an employment letter or business documents,
- a clear travel itinerary, accommodation details,
- and evidence of strong ties to Bangladesh such as property, family, or job stability.
- Student applicants additionally need a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS), academic transcripts, and proof of tuition and living-cost funds meeting UKVI’s maintenance requirements.
Online or Physical
The application itself is entirely online, but biometric enrolment (fingerprints and a photograph) must be done in person at a VFS Global Visa Application Centre. Applicants can also opt for a paid Document Scanning Assistance service if they prefer not to upload documents themselves.
Embassy/VFS Details
VFS Global operates UK visa centres in Dhaka, Sylhet, and Chattogram, giving applicants outside the capital a closer option. There is no direct submission to the British High Commission — all applications and biometrics go through VFS. Tracking is done using the GWF reference number generated at the start of the online application.
Fees
The Standard Visitor visa costs £115 (roughly BDT 16,500), while a Student visa costs £490 plus the mandatory Immigration Health Surcharge of about £470 per year of study. Applicants wanting a faster decision can pay an additional £500 for Priority processing (5 business days), though Super Priority is not currently offered in Bangladesh. VFS also charges separate service fees for optional add-ons like document scanning or SMS updates.
Processing Time
Standard visitor visa decisions typically take about three weeks (21–28 working days) from the biometrics appointment, though this can stretch to five or six weeks during busy periods or for more complex cases. Settlement and family-route visas can take up to 12 weeks. Priority applicants generally receive a decision within five working days.
