  • you have a genuine purpose to visit Australia like conference, business meeting, attending a program, or you are a genuine tourist with travel records.

  • you are a parent of an Australian PR, citizen, or a student living in Australia.

1. Tourist Stream

The Tourist stream is the most common pathway for people who want to explore Australia for leisure. It covers holidays, recreation, cruises and visiting friends or family. Applicants must show they will leave Australia before their visa expires and that they have enough funds to support themselves during the stay. This is the stream most people mean when they search for an australia tourist visa. It can be granted for 3 months or 12 months depending on the applicant’s circumstances. Multiple entries are possible if approved.

2. Business Visitor Stream

The Business Visitor stream is for people travelling to Australia for short-term professional activities. This includes attending conferences, negotiating contracts, making business enquiries or joining trade fairs. It does not allow the visa holder to work for an Australian employer or receive payment from an Australian source. It is not a work visa. Applicants need to demonstrate the purpose is genuinely business-related and temporary. Supporting documents like invitation letters or event registrations strengthen the application.

3. Sponsored Family Stream

The Sponsored Family stream is designed for people who need additional support to obtain a visitor visa. An eligible sponsor — usually an Australian citizen, permanent resident or approved organisation — takes responsibility for the applicant’s conduct and departure. This stream is often used when an applicant has been previously refused or has limited financial evidence on their own. The sponsor must lodge a formal sponsorship before the visa is granted. It adds a layer of accountability that gives Home Affairs greater confidence the applicant will comply with visa conditions.
