Dreaming of Paris, Rome, Berlin, or Barcelona? A Schengen visa from Bangladesh is required for tourists. Bangladesh is not on the EU’s visa-exempt list, so Bangladeshi passport holders must apply for a Type C short-stay Schengen visa before travelling to any of the 29 Schengen countries.

What Is a Schengen Visa?

A Schengen visa lets you travel across all Schengen member states with a single visa. It allows stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period for tourism, family or friend visits, and business trips. It does not allow work or long-term stay.

Which Embassy Should You Apply To?

Apply to the embassy of the country where you will spend the most days. If you spend equal time in several countries, apply to the country you enter first. Applications from Bangladesh generally go through VFS Global in Dhaka, and some countries also accept applications in Chittagong or Sylhet. Germany, for example, requires all Schengen applications to be submitted via VFS.

Schengen Visa Fee in Bangladesh

• Adults: €90 (paid in Bangladeshi Taka, so the amount varies with the exchange rate)
• Children aged 6-12: €45
• Children under 6: free
• The visa fee is non-refundable, even if your visa is rejected.
• VFS charges a separate service fee that varies by country.

How to Apply

1. Choose your destination country based on your main stay.
2. Check the embassy’s checklist. Requirements differ slightly between countries.
3. Complete the Schengen application form.
4. Book a VFS appointment and pay any prepayment or service fee required.
5. Attend your appointment to submit documents and biometrics.
6. Wait for processing. Germany lists 15 working days for Schengen visas, counted from when the application reaches the embassy. Apply up to six months before travel.

Schengen Visa Document Checklist (Bangladesh)

• Embassy-specific forms, such as the declaration of consent required by the German Embassy in Dhaka
• Valid passport (with enough validity and blank pages)
• Old passports and previous visas
• Completed and signed application form
• Two recent biometric photos
